Sleep Coaching Philosophy
Most people in my life, and likely most reading this, are, for better or worse, divorced from a cultural lineage that tells us how children sleep (and supports us through it). This leaves each of us to make the choice for ourselves and our own children. But that choice becomes fraught when the expectations are unrealistic, the context is missing, the support is mostly absent, and the decision you make will be shamed by the internet, if not your own family.
I can’t fix all of that, but I can offer you a safe space to explore what’s really going on, clarify your needs and goals, and identify the strategies that are actually going to work for you. And I can be there to guide and support you with whatever you decide.

For now, recent! I have completed my coursework with the Holistic Sleep Coaching Program (HSCP), and receive ongoing mentorship and continuing education there as well. HSCP offers an accreditation certificate through the highest level of an external review system known as the Open College Network (OCN), which requires a series of research-supported essays on relevant topics. I’m in the process of pursuing this certification now.
It is still early years for my career as a sleep professional, and I plan to continue growing and learning with additional sleep support programs, coach training, and neurodivergence- and trauma-informed education. Most recently, I completed Breastfeeding Conferences’ How Babies Work: Sleep, Eat, Thrive, an accredited webinar for IBCLCs presenting research in sleep science, safety and public health practices, neurodivergence, culturally safe practices, and maternal mental health. You can view my certificate here.

This is a word that gets thrown around quite a bit, with a variety of implications. When I say I am a holistic sleep coach, what I mean is that I aim to take each family’s big picture into account. Different challenges, schedules, family dynamics, and values require different approaches. And sleep itself is interconnected with timing, environment, regulation, temperament, development, attachment, and more. Sometimes the sleep issue is really a sleep issue, and sometimes it’s about more than that. By zooming out, we can explore solutions that might not otherwise arise.

In a word, no. In more words…
I would love to talk with you about any sleep path you’re considering or have already tried! I don’t offer sleep training strategies in my practice, and here’s why:
It’s not right for me:
When I say I want to give you a shame-free space to explore your options, I mean it. If you’re considering cry-it-out or other sleep training methods, and want someone to talk through that decision with you, I am here for it! Every choice carries pros and cons, risks and benefits, and I would be honored to help you weigh those for your own life.
Where I cannot trust myself to be unbiased is in guiding another family through sleep training. My family is part of the substantial group of people who were failed by cry-it-out. It did not help us, and I do think it has continued to negatively impact my child’s relationship with sleep even well after the fact. Believing in and resonating with the methods you apply is such a huge factor in success, and you deserve to be guided by someone who resonates with you.
It’s not right for everyone:
I am not convinced by the available evidence that non-responsive sleep training (cry-it-out, Ferber, other rigid methods) is a safe enough and good enough answer to recommend for all families. There is furious debate on whether it is safe at all, however what is most important to me is that for families who have particular concerns about attachment and trauma, neurodivergent systems, complicated medical needs, or who simply don’t want to do it for any other reason, it is not the most supportive choice, nor necessarily the easiest or most successful one.
It’s not the only thing out there:
The field of sleep support and interventions is broad, and not black and white, despite prevailing narratives. There are a range of responsive options available that most parents just aren’t aware of. From habit stacking to timing adjustments, from bedsharing to dream feeds, you can pick and choose from so much more. This also allows you to consider that sleep isn’t the only thing happening (or not) in your life, and it’s not the only dial you can adjust to improve things!
It’s not needed:
There are already many consultants who can support you with implementing sleep training if you decide that is the right path for your family!
Whether you would never sleep train or you already have, if you’re looking for a deeper understanding, different options, or a guide to support you through the choppy waters of your child’s sleep, I would love to help.

I start with a free discovery call to make sure we’re a good fit - we’ll chat about your needs and goals, and talk through how I can help.
Then, once we’re official, you’ll complete a sleep diary and questionnaire that gets into the nitty gritty of what’s going on. I’ll review this, and we’ll follow up with a 90-minute consultation call. We’ll use that time to get really clear on what you need and how we’re going to get you there. This is a collaborative process, where we’ll work through the issues and develop your plan.
After our consultation, depending on the package you’ve chosen, I can also provide a write-up of the plan and supporting strategies, weekly mini checks, regular follow-up support calls, and text message support.
